The Mahalaxmi Temple is dedicated to Maa Mahalaxmi Goddess of wealth, prosperity and success and is located in Mahalaxmi, Mumbai. The current temple was constructed in 1831. Legends go that to safeguard the idols from Muslim invaders the Mahalaxmi Idols were hidden. Years later, Maa Mahalaxmi appeared in the dreams of a chief engineer Pathare Prabhu who was trying to finish a project unsuccessfully at the given site and told him about the idols. A search was undertaken, and the Idols were found and later the temple was built. Mahalaxmi Temple Mumbai houses the said idols of Tridevi goddesses Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, and Mahasaraswati. The idols are decorated with nose rings, bangles and necklaces. The Mahalaxmi Temple is the most prominent and powerful Devi temple in Mumbai.
