Making Description

Goddess Skandamata is fifth amongst the Navdurga Goddesses. She is worshipped on the fifth day of Navratri festival, which is also known as Panchami. The name Skandamata means mother of Skanda, which is another name of Lord Kartikeya, son of Lord Shiva. Goddess Skandamata is often depicted with four arms holding six faced baby Skanda on one of Her arms, other arms holding lotus flower and blessing Her devotees. Goddess Skandamata symbolizes the motherly love especially for Her devotees. Goddess Skandamata is worshipped for power, prosperity and salvation. Goddess Skandamata is also worshiped to pacify malefic effects of Planet Mercury (Buddh).

Skandamata Devi Puja and Yajna is done to seek the Divine blessings of Goddess Skandamata for courage, strength, prosperity, harmony and material and spiritual growth. Legends go that once asura Tarakasura got a boon from Lord Brahma that He can only be killed by son of Lord Shiva. Through combined Tapas Shakti of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati a ball of fire was created which even Agni Dev and Goddess Ganga couldn't handle. Goddess Ganga kept the ball of fire in the forest of 'Sarkanda' and from the ball of fire a beautiful child emerged who was known as Skanda, Maa Parvati took the child under Her care as Goddess Skandamata. Conduct the Skandamata Devi Puja and Yajna and seek Divine blessings of protection, spiritual growth, prosperity, good health, and familial harmony.
