Lord Shiva is regarded as one of three primary Deities in Sanatan Dharma representing one of the three primary aspects or energies of creation, sustenance and destruction. These energies can be equated with three primary cycles of life be it that of an individual or that of the Universe in its entirety namely birth, life and death. Lord Shiva is the destroyer, He destroys so that new creation can take place and the cycle of time (Kaal Chakra) keeps on ticking. Lord Shiva has numerous aspects and manifestations; He is Adi Yogi or Adi Guru meaning the first Yogi and Guru. He is Mahadev meaning God of Gods and Yogeshwara meaning master of Yoga and Chakras. He is Mahakal meaning the ruler of the time or death. He is the masculine energy of the Universe, who along with the feminine energy (Goddess Shakti) gives birth to all creations.
